Lab: Empirical Gas Laws
Laboratory Activity: The Gas Laws: Boyle’s Law & Charles’ Law
Experimental Overview: The goal of the experiment is to explore the relationship between the pressure and volume of a gas (Boyle’s Law) and between the temperature and volume of a gas (Charles’ Law).
Equipment Used: Vernier Go!Link interface; gas pressure sensor unit; computer; syringe; hot plate; Erlenmeyer flask; plastic rod; rubber tubing; capillary tube; thermometers; ruler
Analysis Performed: Create a graph using experimental pressure and volume data; determine variable proportionality (direct or indirect) for pressure and volume data; rationalize appropriate units for Charles’ Law calculations, based on ratioed experimental data comparisons
